Erin McMahon Soprano

American soprano Erin McMahon made her operatic debut with Théâtre du Capitôle, Toulouse in the role of Eine Fünfzehnjährige in Pet Halmen's critically acclaimed production of Lulu. In 2004 she joined the ensemble of the Salzburger Landestheater where she performed such roles as Zerlina Don Giovanni, Pamina The Magic Flute, Nannetta Falstaff, Frasquita Carmen, Valencienne The Merry Widow, Stéphano Romeo and Jiulliet, Arsena The Gypsy Baron, and Serpetta La Finta Giardiniera. Under the baton of Ivor Bolton she curated several Benjamin Britten roles including Emmie Albert Herring, The Strawberry Seller/Strolling Player , and Flora Turn of the Screw, for which she was nominated by intendent Peter Dolder, for the 2005 Eberhard Wächter Medal.

Guest engagements have included Nannetta Falstaff at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden, Susanna The Marriage of Figaro in Rome, Gretel Hänsel and Gretel with the Salzburger Landestheater, and both Papagena The Magic Flute and Susanna The Marriage of Figaro for the Salzkammergut Mozart Festival. In 2014 she made her debut with Oper im Berg Festival in the role of Pamina The Magic Flute and has gone on to sing First Lady The Magic Flute, Contessa di Ceprano Rigoletto, Mercedes Carmen, Sacerdotessa Aida, and Annina La Traviata with the company. In 2015 she performed the role of Aryanda Der Sonnenkreis, followed in 2017 by the role of Helen of Troy Troja, both world premieres, by Danish composer Jeppe Jacobsen for Skive Opera Festival. In 2021she collaborated with director Hildegard Starlinger in a multidisciplinary production of Die Humanistin (Ernst Jandl) and all the silent ladies all the silent ladies put your hands up (Laura Naumann) co-produced with the ARGEkultur Salzburg. 2022 saw her debut as Donna Elvira in Mozart’s Don Giovanni at Schloss Amerang, Germany.

She has appeared in concert throughout the United States and Europe and was the featured soloist with the Salzburg Mozart Ensemble during their 2003 tour of Japan. In 2018 Erin collaborated with the oesterreichisches ensemble fuer neue musik in their production “Hymnen und Lieder des 21. Jahrhunderts” at the ARGEkultur Salzburg. In 2019 she was soloist with the Burghauser Kammerorchester in an Andrew Lloyd Webber Gala entitled The Music of the Night and later that year debuted with the Camerata Salzburg as soprano soloist in Schubert’s Mass Nr.2 in G Major at the Schubert in Gastein Festival. She debuted with the Sorbisches National Ensemble in 2022, performing Samuel Barber’s Knoxville Summer of 1914 and the world premiere of Njesmertnosć for soprano and orchestra by Lukas Čórlich. She most recently was a guest soloist with the Philharmonie Salzburg in their 2024 Christmas Concert with live broadcast on Antenne Salzburg.

Erin was a prize-winner in the National Association of Teachers of Singing Vocal Competition and a finalist for the 2002 Friedrich Schorr Memorial Performance Prize in New York. Erin is a graduate of the University of Iowa and a student of renowned singing teacher Dale Fundling.
